Mechanical Engineer


  • Ability to lead a project
  • Deliver engineering outputs, such as design, documentation, analyses and reviews to meet the technical and project requirements.
  • Design complex mechanical assemblies and integrate them into systems.
  • Develop overall mechanical concepts and prepare detailed production quality drawings to include components, assemblies and fixtures all according to the Industry standard.
  • Prepare production quality 3D CAD drawings and layouts using Solidworks.
  • Create drawings for the optic lenses, reflectors, harnesses and PCB connections and layout.
  • Create flat layouts for the sheet metal parts.
  • Research conceptual theory with hands on application of the design.
  • Ability to utilize and apply engineering theory and judgment to solve design problems.
  • Build relationships with suppliers to order necessary tools and extrusions required.
  • Design new products within a specified budget for the project.


  • Schedule, plan and prioritize individual activities required to meet or exceed the production deadlines.
  • Design jigs and fixtures to improve the manufacturing process.
  • Quality control of incoming parts and products for assembly.
  • Complete assigned tasks in the time frame and in the quality required.
  • Prioritize tasks to accomplish the most important task first.
  • Make necessary suggestion to improve the engineering department's practices, policies and procedures.
  • Attend weekly team meetings to discuss all projects that are in progress.


  • Maintain the engineering change tracking system.
  • Maintain and improve drawings on the database.
  • Maintain the inventory database.
  • Create and maintain all Bills of Material for each project.

  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing methods, for sheet metal manufacturing and other fabrication methods, (e.g. plastics, injection molding), an asset.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools.


  • Knowledge and experience of many areas of Optical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Optical Metrology (Interferometers, image quality metrics, alignment and test techniques).
  • Ability to design custom lensing, reflectors, Fresnel amongst other type optics Ability to create/design optical systems to meet customer requirements by working directly with external and internal clients.
  • Extensive knowledge of optical component manufacturing processes
  • Ability to operate measuring tools and test equipment including, but not limited to, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.
  • Capture oscilloscope waveforms, make power and efficiency measurements, gather additional data and provide clear, concise reports for review.
  • Experience with LED products and professional work experience in lighting fixture design, ideal
  • Experience with MRP system(s)


  • College or University diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in working in a R&D engineering department with 3 years in Mechanical design
